My new Sony A580 – Macro

Bought new mid range DSLR Camera the Sony A580. Still going through the manual and did some macro test shot this evening @ Cherok Tokun.

Happy with the result of this camera. Picture above is the soldier fly capture in around 1.3:1 magnification.

Macro Bug hunt @ Botanical Garden Penang

Found this Colorful Leafhopper during my Macro Bug Hunt @ Botanical Garden which made this #2 in my Cicadas List here and enjoy the rest of the pics :)

The area i’m hunting has alot of this Harvestman, which kind of everywhere.

 

Yosh another Weevil found on my way back to the car, abit disappointed coz i forgot to bring my Raynox DCR-250 during my outing or else i might get bigger magnification of this beautiful super small weevil, about 2-3mm in size :). Thanks for viewing.

Breaking Through the Sunrise

It's been awhile since the last time i post on my blog and today i manage to wake up early and drive to the Penang Island @ Jelutong Expressway to shoot this beautiful sunrise.

Macro @ Cherok To’kun II

Added a few bugs to my new list and one of it is the Shield Bug and Assassin Bug as below. Still a bit out of focus on the eyes, but then i’m happy with it since the quality of the flash is great with my newly done macro snoot diffuser. I will post how my diffuser looks like (do not vomit when you see it) in the next post.

Macro @ Cherok To’kun I

When to Cherok To’kun for solo Bug hunting along the hiking trail. Get few bugs but then the result not satisfying enough. Hash flash and focusing is the main problem. Will practice harder on next trip. Anyway below is the picture took today on Cherok To’kun.

Macro: Lemon & Kiwi

Try out fruit macro using Lemon and Kiwi. The result?? Ok..but not what i expected to be.

Lemon on a clear glass with soda’s.

Slice Kiwi fruit with wireless flash from behind to get dark background.

Quite not satisfied with the result. Will buy more kiwi, lemon and others fruit for practice. Thanks for viewing..cheers

Penang Celebrate Bon Odori Festival at the 17th July 2010 at Esplanade Penang. It is full of people come together to celebrate this meaningful event.

The event started at 5pm but unfortunately heavy rain fall at 5.30pm for more then 1 hour, but then people still pouring in after the rain stop.

Auto City Carnival 2010 @ Auto City Juru

Oh well, as the title says Auto City Carnival event which covers variety of event including car modifications, car shows, models competition, recycling costume wear and much more which i only covers a few of them.

This event happen at Juru Auto City in the 11th June until 13th June 2010. This event suppose to cover the car shows and car modification which i did not shoot any picture of it (too concentrate on the models and show lol), hopefully next time i will cover all the event :)

Adenium Floral Competition and Show June 2010 @ Penang Botanic Garden

Another event happen at Penang Botanic Garden in 6th June to 15th June 2010 which is the Adenium Floral Competition and Show. Got the chance to visit the event and take some photo’s on the beautiful Adenium flowers.

Not only Adenium flowers were on display, there is also other floral is on display and for sell which is orchid and bonsai to name a few.

Pulau Aman 2010

Pulau Aman certainly a place to visits if you like freshly seafood for example mantis shrimp, crabs and shrimp. When i’m there the fisherman told us there is no crabs for the day when were there, so we end up only having mantis shrimps.

Mee Udang which we were having and it is REALLY yummy with the freshly prawn.

A cold refreshing Ice lemon tea for a hot humid weather.

Wesak Day 2010 @ Burmah Road

The whole Malaysia celebrate Wesak Day on 28th Feb. I’m there taking picture of this historic event which remembered as the day Buddha is born.

People from whole Penang come to the ‘Sleeping Buddha’ Temple for praying to celebrate this event.

Miss Megamall 2010 @ Pasific Megamall

Attended Miss Megamall 2010 on 16th May held at Pasific Megamall Prai. Lighting was bad enough for my 55-200mm kit lens thus taking a real bad picture with lot of noise because i pump up too much ISO during photographing (bad skill i assume..lol)

DIY Lightbox Product Photography 2010

When there is no event, function and what so ever, what you gonna do with a DSLR at home? Well i’ve done a product photography, a Ferrari F1 model car as below;

Picture looks abit under expose and need to use smaller aperture coz the front and back of the car not detail enough (thanks for the comment from erictham from Shutterasia forum website, will improve more).

BriPex 2nd May 2010 @ PISA

The best is save for last, that the last day of BriPex models show title ‘Ever After Bridal Show ‘brought to you by Blissful Bridal Studio at 2nd May 2010 (sunday). Models brought in to showcase their wedding gowns are from Ms Malaysia Tourism, our very own Malaysian Supermodel Amber Chia, Ms Astro Chinese, Nasha Aziz and many more making a spectacular show.

The show were delayed for an hour from 2pm to 3pm due to technical issue due to their sound system (no sound at all..lol). Anyway, click below for more picture taken on the Ever After Barbie Bridal Show..

Manage to go to one of the Bripex showcase, the bikini show today 1st May 2010 at PISA Penang.

Sony Alpha Flash Workshop April 2010 @ Cititel Penang

Kek Lok Si Temple Light Up 2010 @ Air Itam

It’s only once a year Kek Lok Si Temple at Air Itam will fully light up. Thousand of people from whole Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand visits this historical event.

The event is start at 13th Feb 2010 to 13th March from 7pm onwards. It was says that 230,000 light bulbs and 10,000 lanterns were light up every night for 33 days.

Penang Tropical Spice Garden 2010 @ Teluk Bahang

Been to Penang Tropical Spice Garden at 3rd April last saturday. Entrance is RM14 per person and they kind enough to give me a free gift…..free mosquito repellent to rub you body. You can rub as much as you want to. I might going there again to take photo for the second round, since the first round isn’t so good for me.

For those who wish to visit this place, it’s really recommended because it is VERY beautiful environment for us to take scenery photography. Not suitable for Macro photography for you info but if you can find insect or bugs there, then good. In the end it’s up to the photographer creativity how to take nice picture of the scenery there.

Ireland Trip @ 2009

First off, it's not actually i'm on Ireland for vacation, my company send me there to transfer a certain product back here in Malaysia to run. I'm there in March 16 onwards for 2 weeks in 2009.

Ireland certainly a nice place to visit and i guarantee you guys won't regret. It is a nice place to get away from all those hot humi weather country and relax here. The temperature when i'm here is around 15-18celcius and in Ireland it rains all the time.

Penang Orchid Festival 2010 @ Jalan Taman Bunga (Bortanical Garden)

Yosh, it's been a month since the last time i update my blog, reason wise...abit lazy and busy with my jobs. Anyway on 20th March 2010, i'm at the Penang Orchid Festival to take some beautiful photo of ...orchid of coz.

There are many colorful orchid which attract my eyes and my camera which made me unable to name all those orchid i took the picture of.

My first HDR

HDR means High Dynamic Range imaging. It works by combining 3 picture in different exposure into 1. For more info on HDR you can read at wikipedia here. There are tons of HDR processing software around the internet and the one i'm using is Photomatix as my HDR processing.

Below is my first HDR, picture below is the original picture before HDR processing is done.



As you can see the picture i took is kinda dull, plain and out of contrast. Its a noob photography by me. Using Adobe Photoshop to recreate 3 different exposure which is 1 over expose, 1 below expose and another is normal exposure and combine all the 3 picture using Photomatix to create a HDR image as below.



YEAH! processing is done and image above the HDR picture. You can see the picture is like animated which i purposely do and we can see a more detail texture on the Rhino skin. A fail picture become an increadible photo for collection. I will post more HDR picture when i have the time to do it..lol.

Penang Bird Park @ Seberang Jaya

Penang Bird Park is establish since 1988 and it was the first and largest bird park across Malaysia. Since it located not in the Penang island rather then in mainland, not much people visits the park  because of it's location. Consists of over 300 species of birds from all over the world.

Ok enough of the introduction, i've visit the bird park in 1st Feb 2010 and it's my first AND i'm from Penang itself. The bad part of the this bird park was most of the birds is inside a cage, so taking picture of them is kinda hard. Anyway, enjoy all the picture i've took during my visit's there.

Taiping Zoo @ Taiping Perak

30th Jan is Public Holiday for Malaysian to celebrate Thaipusam. But on this day i was in Taiping Perak to visit Taiping Zoo therefore there is actually no photo taken from me for the Thaipusam festival. I've never been to any zoo before and therefore i was actually happy when i was there in Taiping Zoo when touring the zoo with the free touring on a mini train for tourist.



Visitors is greeted with the 'Selamat Datang' sign or 'Welcome' to Zoo Taiping and Night Safari. There is 2 section for visiting the zoo taiping, 1 is during the day time and another is during the night which why they  call Night Safari. Some animal is active during night and some animal is active during day where you can enjoy both season if you stay a night at Taiping, and below is the picture of animal i took during my visits there.. enjoy

New Lens

Woot!! Added new lens for my basic photography hobby. An SAL55-200mm F4-5.6 DT Zoom lens and a SAL50mmF1.8 potrait lens.



Different lens have different usage, well the zoom lens i bought SAL55-200mm F4-5.6 DT were use to shoot far object and also a very good lens for potrait also. This lens i bought it 2nd hand from a nice guy from JB for a price of RM430 + delivery.

Butterfly Farm @ Teluk Bahang

Penang Butterfly Farm is open in public on March 1986, suppose to be the first Butterfly farm across the tropical region. Consist of 120 species of butterfly and insects, a must visit place when visiting Penang.


This is the main entrance of the Butterfly Farm park.

Asam Laksa @ Air Itam Penang

My first Food blog lol, Asam Laksa is Penang 1 of favourite food (especially female lol). The Asam Laksa stall at Air Itam has been operating for many many years in the same exact location (on the way to Kek Lok Si Temple) on the Pasar road side. Location cleanliness is kinda bad because the stall is just beside the drain.

A must item for DSLR

YEAH, i got my Dry Cabinet, DSLR bag and Silica gel today. My BEGINNERS =.= equipment is almost complete. Now left is the external Flash which needed to make nice picture during low lighting. Else if using Internal flash, it's a gogo picture..lol.

DSLR need to be carefully taken care of, as like your 2nd wife. If the camera did not carefully taken care, for example leaving it on your room or cabinet, your camera lens will collect alot of dust and MOST important is the moisture or humidity in our country Malaysia is around RH70-80%. Fungus will appear in the lens if leave it for a very long time.



Silica Gel which can reduce the RH to lower and best to be kept it in our bags. The Silica Gel i bought is a recycle type as picture above. How it works, you see the little purple gel in the middle? If the gel turn pink, then you need to plug in to the socket to dry out the moisture, when the moisture has been completely dry the gel will turn blue. I bought it from the internet http://www.shashinki.com/ for RM49 + delivery to your door steps.

San Francisco

Jun 2008 i've got a project transfer from the company i work for at San Jose, which is about an hour drive to San Francisco.  The month we were there is kinda perfect weather about 20 degree celcius (not so hot and not so cold). All picture below is taken with Canon PowershotA520.

Cherok Tokun

Cherok Tokun a small little tourist spot or to be exact place for people taking exercise (walking up to the mountain) , Currently the place are under renovation surrounding the Cherok Tokun to attract more visitor. Photo taken with Sony A330 DSLR



The waterfall is taken with Shutter Priority mode. I've try to make a longer shutter but end up the photo is over expose.
