Milky Way 2011, Penang

...| Shooting Milky |...

We when to another Milky Way shooting with the same group at the same place. Again a very lucky day for us, clear sky without moon. This time I try to put up some different perspective on my picture composition, in this photo I place my camera behind another camera. A Sony shooting Canon shooting Milky. Awesome huh lol.

...| Milky with a Flower |...

I’ve shot the milky way with this composition before here but the foreground is pitch black. This time I’m using a torch light put up some light painting so I would get the foreground come to live. The flower pointing towards the milky is just so nice.

...| Supernatural |...

Before we when off, we take 1 portrait picture behind the milky. In this picture, we place an LED light behind the car to light up the car behind and we are using our hand phone to light up the front. This picture is taken with Canon 5D Mark II with 17-40 F4 L lens from mengsys. We are quite happy with the result we get this time. I will go there again someday with a time-lapse shot. Till see you again next time. Bye.

My Very first Milky Way 2011

...| My Very First Milky Way |...

I’m quite happy my first outing for Milky way is a SUCCESS..lol. Although I’m only using Kit Lens which given quite a fair picture but still, it’s MILKY WAY!!!. Picture were shot at 25sec exposure at F3.5 and 1600 ISO. Try to get the best lens you have, the bigger the aperture (smallest F number)  the better.

...| Just Milky |...

Place to shoot milky way? Just look at Google Map and browse to location out of city area, and go there. Make sure there’s no street lamp or any light pollution.

Sunrise at Penang Hill 2011

...| Above the Cloud |...

It’s been years since the last time I visit Penang Hill. I still remember the last time I visit which is during my secondary school days.. yup it’s that long. Any changes from the last time I visit and now? Well not much, changes was the Train (yup I did not take any photo of the train..lol). After going up the hill what can you do? Nothing..lol. Nothing fun up there, only was the cool breeze during early morning we reach.

What I like for shooting sunrise here was we were eventually above the cloud which makes it cool huh..lol. We can see the town below the cloud and the sun above it, a three layers.

...| Aim for the Sun |...

Here my friend trying to shoot the sunrise, a silhouette shot. I love the sun bursting beside him.

~Going Down~

While we going down, I try to take a zoom effect shot, does the train going down look fast? haha.

Anyway for those who wish to shoot sunrise here, the earliest train departure is 6.30am. Just barely make it when reaches the top takes about 15min going up.

...| Cross Reflection |...

A different feeling for this sunrise shot. Yes most of my sunrise shot is by the seaside (beach), this time we went to the paddy field for this spectacular sunrise shot. The green paddy field with a cross reflection from the sun, it’s absolute colors from this picture it self satisfying me a lot.

Sunrise at Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway

...| Calm |...

Yes, I have return to the very first location where I first shot sunrise. This time I have some help with this shot, borrowed my friends ND 4 Filter to have this beautiful shot. When I was there I was surprise to see more then 10 people there shooting at the same spot. But there were shooting high up where I climb down the below to have a lower angel shot. I’m quite satisfy with this shot which sharp and nice saturation. I hope the next time I come will be high tide instead of low tide like this and my previous shot.

Sunrise at Pantai Shamrock, Batu Ferringhi 2011

Yes!, the month of April is finally over, a month of macro shot and here comes the new month May..haha. Anyway lets get this crap talking over..lol

...| Something Coming |...

Took this picture at Pantai Shamrock, Batu Ferringhi. The weather not so great but I’m happy with the shot (for a newbies like me lol). This picture is perfected with a borrowed Cokin ND 4 Filter. Which is why I’m able to get the smooth sea and some detail at the cloud. Also attach is the CPL filter to increase the saturation. A minor adjustment done on Lightroom 3 and also Photoshop CS5. This place is famous for swimming and by evening people will come pouring in for a swim at the beach haha. I will definitely will come again to shoot for this location as I’m not quite satisfy with it..lol. Anyway that’s all, will share another Sunrise again soon. See ya and thanks for visiting.

Sunrise @ Weld Quay 2011

...| Modern Africa |...

Went for another sunrise with my gangs at Weld Quay, Penang. Not the best weather because as you can see the cloud is dark which is a rain cloud. But then it makes this picture more dramatic with multiple colors. I name this picture ‘Modern Africa’ because of the crane container which looks like giraffe in africa. I’ve try to shoot for Panorama but the end result is bad so I remove it from my collection.

Sunrise @ Teluk Tempoyak 2011
Another Sunrise shot from me and now the location is at Teluk Tempoyak just a few km after Queensbay Mall Penang. It is a perfect weather with high tide sea making this picture wonderful. All picture is taken without any ND filter but with only with the Hoya CPL filter. This picture is taken at abit distant which I’m looking for a perfect foreground to fill the frame which I’m satisfy with it.
Sunrise @ Teluk Tempoyak 2011
The beauty of endless calm sea are just wonderful, the endless bridge going to the middle of the sea. This picture is take at a much close to the jetty where people come here for fishing.
...| Day after tomorrow |...
Finally the Panorama Shot after the sunrises and ray of light bursting out from the cloud and the right side of the picture show’s the morning is still early. A different feel and colors which makes this panorama picture breathless which will make this as one my BEST 2011 picture. Stiches from 6 shot to get this wonderful picture with a great freeware software from ‘Hugin – Panorama Stiches’. It’s actually done a pretty good job stitching to get this breathless picture without any errors. All picture are shot in Raw and converted into Jpeg before stitches is done. Hey I’m shooting with Kit Lens..lol. Can anybody sponsor me a greater lens so I able to shoot much better quality picture..lol, just kidding. Who says Kit lens is dumb lens..ha..
That’s all for now, hope you guys will like my pictures, there is more in my flickr here. Please do not use my picture without my permission. Send me an email at stevensys@gmail.com for any inquiry. Thanks. Have a nice day. Cheers.

Kek Lok Si Temple at Night 2011

Last year during Chinese New Year 2010, i could only watch other people picture from internet the beauty of Kek Lok Si light up at night. I even took a picture of those people who was at the opposite of Kek Lok Si Temple farming plantation using my 55-200mm lol (see below picture). Well this year i made it finally, take a picture of the beautiful Kek Lok Si Temple which only light up for about a month only during Chinese New Year.

Kek Lok Si Temple 2011 - Light Up

The weather is not so nice the day i shoot coz too many haze. There’s suppose to be a crane on top of the temple but i remove it from photoshop and some clone work on the roof of the building due to lights a missing. Well how’s it goes? I’m quite satisfy with this picture shot by using my 18-55mm kit lens. The location i shot is warn by the farm owner that there’s a lot of snakes around at night so those who would like to shoot at this location must wear a ‘Phua Chu Kang’ boots or construction boots with long pants. Some people who wearing shorts were ask to leave. There’s actually another location high above the place i shoot but the location is not quite good (but the farm owner will not disturb you, picture below is the location).

While waiting for night to come, i shoot a few shot and convert it to HDR (high dynamic range), not so good but it’s ok.

Kek Lok Si Temple - HDR Photomatrix

Well my dream come true to get this beautiful shot. Hope all of you photographer would able to shoot at this location. Feel free to PM me at my facebook or my flickr for actual location so you can go and get ready to shoot next year if you can’t make it this year.

A memory from last year the shot i took from Kek Lok Si using my 55-200mm at max zoom. The place i shot is lower then their location there. Cheers.
